Deleted an eSIM by mistake? You may be able to reinstall it—but check the provider first.

Deleting removes the eSIM profile from your phone. Whether you can download it again depends on the provider, the exact plan and sometimes the original device. Use the provider app or official support before rescanning a QR code or buying another plan.

The short answer

Sometimes. An eSIM that has been deleted cannot be restored from the phone itself, but the provider may let you download the profile again, issue a replacement or reinstall it through its app. Other plans use a one-device or limited-download rule. Do not assume the original QR code will work twice, and do not delete a profile merely because the connection is failing.

RecoveryRules vary
If the eSIM is still visible in Settings, stop here. Turn the line off and back on or follow the travel eSIM troubleshooting guide. Deleting an installed profile can convert a connection problem into a new installation problem.

1. Deleting an eSIM is not the same as turning it off

ActionWhat happens on the phoneCan you reverse it yourself?
Turn the line offThe profile remains installed but cannot connectUsually yes: turn the line back on
Choose another data lineThe eSIM remains installed but is not used for mobile dataYes: select it again
Reset network settingsNetwork preferences are reset; effects vary by phonePreferences must be configured again
Delete or erase eSIMThe downloaded cellular profile is removedOnly if the provider permits a new download or replacement

Google Pixel documents separate controls for temporarily turning off a SIM and erasing an eSIM. Apple likewise recommends checking whether the line still appears in Cellular settings, toggling it and restarting before contacting the carrier about setup trouble. Those reversible checks should come before deletion.

2. What happens after you delete an eSIM?

The phone loses the downloaded profile used to identify and register that line. Mobile data, calls or SMS supplied by that eSIM stop working on the device. Your photos, apps and other phone content are not part of the eSIM profile and are not removed by this action.

Deleting the device profile is also not the same button as cancelling a subscription, requesting a refund or closing a provider account. However, billing, remaining data, validity and replacement rights are provider-specific. Open the original order or account rather than assuming the plan has been cancelled—or preserved.

3. Use this recovery order

1

Connect to trusted Wi-Fi and stop deleting, resetting or rescanning codes

2

Confirm the eSIM is actually missing from the phone's SIM settings

3

Open the provider app or account with the email used for the purchase

4

Look for Reinstall, Install eSIM, Replacement or Deleted your eSIM?

5

Contact official support before buying a replacement or reusing a QR code

A QR code can point your phone to a remote eSIM download, but the provider controls whether another download is allowed. Repeated scanning does not override that rule and can make the support history harder to follow. Preserve the original confirmation email, but treat its QR code and activation details as private credentials.

Do not post these publicly

Keep the QR code, activation code, order number, EID, IMEI and account email out of forums and public screenshots. Share identifiers only through the provider's official private support channel when requested.

4. Reinstallation rules differ by provider

The examples below show why there is no universal yes-or-no answer. They describe the providers' published help pages checked on August 24, 2026; your exact order and current in-app instructions take priority.

ProviderPublished recovery positionSafest next step
SailySays its eSIM can be reinstalled through the app using the same account email, including on another deviceSign in with the purchase email and choose Install eSIM; contact Saily support if it fails
AiraloSays eSIMs typically cannot simply be reinstalled, but its app may offer plan-specific recovery or replacementOpen My eSIMs and follow the recovery option shown for that order
HolaflyCurrently says its plans can be reinstalled a limited number of times on the original phoneUse the original order instructions on strong Wi-Fi and confirm the current limit

Provider rules can change and may differ between products. If recoverability matters before purchase, compare it alongside validity, device transfer and refund terms—not after a profile has disappeared. Our Saily eSIM briefing separates Saily's published features from what we have not personally tested.

5. If the eSIM was deleted from an iPhone

  1. Connect the iPhone to trusted Wi-Fi or a hotspot.
  2. Open Settings → Cellular and confirm the line is absent—not merely turned off.
  3. Open the provider app or purchase email and use its official reinstall or replacement path.
  4. If the provider supplies a new QR code, link or activation details, use the matching option under Add eSIM.
  5. If setup fails, record the exact message and contact the provider before repeating the attempt.

Apple's setup documentation lists carrier activation, QR code, carrier link, provider app and manual details as possible methods. The provider—not the iPhone alone—determines which method is available for the plan. For the normal installation menus, use our iPhone travel eSIM guide.

6. If the eSIM was deleted from Android

  1. Connect to stable, trusted internet.
  2. Open the phone's SIM manager and confirm the profile is no longer listed.
  3. Return to the provider app or account and start its approved reinstall or replacement flow.
  4. Add the eSIM using the method supplied for that order.
  5. After installation, label the line and assign mobile data carefully before enabling roaming.

Android menu names vary by manufacturer and software version. Pixel uses Network & internet → SIMs; Galaxy commonly uses Connections → SIM manager. Follow the exact path in our Android travel eSIM installation guide once the provider confirms a usable profile is available.

7. Give support enough evidence to decide

Send a short, factual account through the official private support channel:

  • The provider and exact plan or order.
  • Whether the eSIM was installed, activated or already used before deletion.
  • The phone make, exact model and operating-system version.
  • Whether you are using the original phone or a new device.
  • The exact error message and the recovery steps already attempted.

Ask one direct question: “Can this specific order be reinstalled, or do you need to issue a replacement profile?” Do not buy again until support or the app makes the available remedy clear.

Common questions

Can I reuse the same eSIM QR code?

Only if the provider allows another download for that plan. Some codes or profiles are limited to one device or a fixed number of downloads; others can be reissued or reinstalled through an account.

Does deleting an eSIM cancel the plan or refund it?

Not automatically. Removing a device profile and cancelling a commercial plan are separate actions. Check the provider account, validity and refund rules for the exact order.

Should I delete an eSIM that says No Service?

No—not as a first fix. Confirm destination coverage, activation, the selected data line, roaming, APN and network registration first. Ask the provider whether the profile is reinstallable before erasing it.

Can I reinstall the eSIM on a different phone?

Sometimes, but device-transfer rules are provider-specific. A plan that permits reinstallation on the original phone may still prohibit transfer to another phone.

Does turning an eSIM off pause its validity?

Usually not once the plan's validity clock has started. Turning off the line preserves the installed profile, but the provider's time or subscription rules continue to apply.
